Meibohm Fine Arts Gallery & The Art Shop, located in historic East Aurora since 1957, is deeply rooted in the Buffalo area. In 1901, Carl H. Meibohm, photographer at the Pan American Exposition, opened The Art Shop at 324 Connecticut Street, on Buffalo's old West Side. Soon after, a new building was constructed at 326 Connecticut Street, to provide for the expanding business. Custom framing, paintings, prints and art objects were his specialties. The Art Shop became a well loved Buffalo institution and continued to operate at this location until Carl and Pearl Meibohm died in 1957.

Walter Meibohm, their son, grew up in the art business. In 1939, he left Buffalo for New York City where he worked for an internationally known art publisher. After overseas service in World War II he returned to New York. Then in 1947, he moved to Indiana where he became involved in designing frames and mouldings, and began purchasing paintings and fine prints on annual European business trips.

In 1957 Walter and his wife Betty moved to 478 Main Street, in historic East Aurora, to establish a specialized business in original oil paintings under the name Walter Meibohm Fine Arts, Inc., including The Art Shop's custom framing which assured the continuation of varied art services to both the residential and commercial community. Walter continued to share his extensive knowledge of the art field with his customers until his death at the age of 84.

Meibohm Fine Arts, Inc. is now in its third generation. Grace Meibohm values the tradition of quality work, presenting a blend of art and history with a personable approach along with customized service. It's a portrait of a family business where integrity of materials, design and service continues to draw clients today, as in the past, by offering "A little better than seems necessary..."
