I love the colors blue, purple, pink, and green; and especially if they sparkle and glitter. Those are the colors I use most in my work; and I often add a touch of fractalized dichroic glass to give it a special sparkle.
My signature bead "The World Bead" is a deep blue round bead, and incorporates gold leaf and gold dichroic threads which suggest the continents, seas, and sky. Viewed critically, it can even cast a deep yellow and red glow at the center of the core.
I make glass beads, fusings, and art objects that make me feel good; they don't have any hidden meaning, or universal truth - they are just simply "pleasing". (but... i suppose if you looked at them really hard and really long... :).
I entered the world of glass in 1978, as a apprentice in the Glass Art Gallery of Houston, making church windows and architectural windows for custom homes. I then progressed (as most glass addicts do) to fusing, sandbasting, lampwork, off-hand-blowing, and furnace work. In 1983, I was fortunate to study with Dan Fenton, and became certifed to teach Glass Fusion. In 1993, I authored one of the early craft books on making glass beads titled (appropriately enough) "Making Glass Beads - Volume #1 - Vicki's Porch".
I am a full-time contemporary glass artist. I personally design and handmake every piece of glass work I sell. My studio is located on Padre Island where I can watch the morning and evening sun striking the waves (or the hurricane winds forming).
If you also have my passion for bright sparking works of glass, then you've come to the right place. Please enjoy.
