General Interest

In conjunction with the presidential and Supreme Court collections, the Famous American series presents an assortment of figurines designed to look and feel just like the classic collectible Marx figures of the 1950s and 60s.  They are made of resin plastic, about 2 3/4 inches tall, with the last name of the individual on the front of the base in raised letters (the backs are blank).  They are hand cast, hand painted, and sequentially numbered.

Currently available figures include Benjamin Franklin, John Hancock, Alexander Hamilton, Aaron Burr, Daniel Webster, Edgar Allan Poe, Frederick Douglass, Mark Twain, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Cesar Chavez.

To compliment the Presidential Collection, two other figurines are available.  First is David Rice Atchison, known as "President for a Day" because he was the President Pro Tem of the US Senate on Sunday, March 4, 1849, between the terms of James K. Polk and Zachary Taylor.  Next is Jefferson Davis, the President of the Confederate States of America.  Each figure is individually numbered, hand cast, and hand painted.

During Marx's production run, the company also produced several sitting vice presidents in the event that they became president themselves. These figurines included Richard Nixon, Lyndon Johnson, and Hubert Humphrey. In keeping with that tradition, current Vice President Joe Biden is available as are past vice presidents Aaron Burr, Elbridge Gerry, Nelson Rockefeller (recast), Walter Mondale, and Al Gore. These figurines are hand cast, hand painted, and sequentially numbered.

The three Kennedy Brothers who served as US Senators (John, Robert, and Ted) are also available as figurines.  The JFK and RFK figurines are recasts of figures Marx made in 1960 and 1968, respectively.   These figurines are hand cast, hand painted, and sequentially numbered.

Marx Toys also made a variety of religious figurines including Pope Pius XI and Pope Paul VI.  Currently, Pope Benedict XVI and Pope Francis are available.   These figurines are hand cast, hand painted, and sequentially numbered.

The Marx production process included the making of a steel prototype figurine that became the basis for the rapid injection mold used to make the final plastic figurines.   Two of these prototypes have come on the collectors market of unnamed figures of which finished plastic figurines were never produced:   One is definitely French General Charles DeGaulle and the other is a man in the style of the 1968 Marx presidential candidate series who is believed to be Eugene McCarthy.   Plastic recasts are available for these figurines in very limited numbers.  The base is blank on these figurines but they are hand cast, hand painted, and sequentially numbered.
