NEW VENTURE 4500 5 SPEED TRANSMISSION

FOR DODGE AND CHEVROLET 1 TON TRUCKS

I HAVE BEEN ASKED MANY TIMES ABOUT THIS TRANSMISSION, THE UPDATES, HOW WELL IT OPERATES AND WHAT TYPE OF LIFE EXPECTANCY TO EXPECT. I WILL TRY TO ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS SO PEOPLE CAN UNDERSTAND WHAT TO EXPECT. FIRST LET ME SAY THAT WE HAVE BEEN IN THE TRANSMISSION REBUILDING BUSINESS FOR MANY YEARS AND WE HAVE BEEN INVOLVED WITH THIS UNIT SINCE THEY FIRST STARTED SHOWING UP IN THE AFTERMARKET. OF COURSE WE SAW THESE UNITS THAT HAD BEEN RUN OUT OF OIL OR BUSTED UP ON THE INSIDE, THAT IS TO BE EXPECTED. THEY ARE WORK TRUCKS AND STUFF LIKE THAT HAPPENS. THE ONE THING THAT WE SAW OVER AND OVER WAS THE LOSS OF 5TH GEAR. AT FIRST INSPECTION YOU SAW THAT THE NUT THAT HELD THE MAINSHAFT 5TH GEAR ON HAD BACKED OFF SO PEOPLE WOULD JUST PUT IT BACK ON AND LET IT GO. A FEW WEEKS LATER IT WOULD BE BACK WITH THE SAME PROBLEM SO SOME PEOPLE WOULD LOCK TIGHT IT BACK ON AND OTHERS WOULD EVEN WELD IT BACK ON. THE LOCK TIGHT WOULD NOT HOLD AND THE WELD WOULD CHANGE THE TEMPER IN THE MAINSHAFT AND MANY TIMES THE MAINSHAFT WOULD BREAK INTO TWO PIECES. BY NOW PEOPLE ARE FIGURING OUT THAT SOMETHING IS GOING ON. WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE ORIGINAL MAINSHAFT YOU WOULD NOTICE THAT THE SPLINES FOR 5TH GEAR ONLY WENT 1/2 WAY THROUGH THE GEAR. COME TO FIND OUT THAT WHAT WAS HAPPENING WAS THAT WHEN THIS TRANSMISSION WAS IN 5TH GEAR AT LOW SPEEDS THE GEAR WAS KNOCKING THAT NUT BACK, MOSTLY BECAUSE THE SPLINES DID NOT GO ALL THE WAY THROUGH IT. I WAS THERE WHEN THEY MADE THE FIRST UPDATED SHAFT, WHERE THE SPLINES GO ALL THE WAY THROUGH IT. THAT, WITH A LOCK NUT ON 5TH GEAR STOPS THE LOSS OF 5TH GEAR. WE HAVE NOT HAD A PROBLEM WITH 5TH GEAR IN A LONG TIME. WE DO STILL SEE PEOPLE WHO OVERLOAD THEIR TRUCKS AND WILL ACTUALLY KNOCK THE TEETH OFF OF 5TH GEAR AND OTHER GEARS BUT THIS IS NOT THE TRANSMISSIONS FAULT, IT IS ALWAYS THE DRIVER. OVERALL THESE ARE GOOD TRANSMISSIONS WITH MANY YEARS OF SERVICE IN THEM AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN UPDATED. IT ALSO HELPS TO KEEP OIL IN THEM.  WE SEE THAT ON A REGULAR BASIS. CHECK YOUR OIL ON A REGULAR BASIS AND YOU WILL BE GOOD TO GO. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS TRANSMISSION OR ANY OTHER, GIVE US A CALL AT HIGH GEAR, 1-800-323-6211 THANKS, STEVE
