Magliner Hand Truck Safety Tips

Magline encourages the use of good safety practices, especially in the challenging environment of the route driver.  Here are reminders when using your Magliner Hand Truck:

Lifting - Always use proper lifting techniques when loading your hand truck with items or removing and placing your hand truck on your vehicle.  More injuries occur as a result of improper lifting techniques than any other condition.

Hand Injuries - Always make certain you have adequate hand clearance between passageways and the hand truck when passing through narrow openings.  Hand injuries frequently occur because of hands and fingers being pinched in narrow openings.

Clear Vision -  A hand truck stacked to a height where the operator's vision becomes impaired or blocked is a recipe for trouble.  Never load your hand truck to a height where it prevents a clear vision of the terrain or potential obstructions ahead.  Slowing down at corners and entering doorways will help you avoid potential collisions or obstructions, which may be lurking just out of sight.

Inclines, Curbs, and Steps -  They all seem like they have been created as a hindrance rather than a convenience to the hand truck user.  Remember to use your curb ramp, take the elevator or alternate route to avoid the obstruction or make it easier to traverse.  If you must go up and down steps, use stair climbers on the hand truck to assist you.  Go slowly, one step at a time, and allow the stair climber to help support the load.  When going up, properly position yourself for each lift and use proper lifting techniques.  Remember to lighten the load when negotiating steps.  The extra trips will translate into reduced strain on your muscles and skeleton over the course of a long day, weeks, months, and years.

Optimize Your Load - Your Magliner Hand Truck has been designed to operate effectively at capacities up to 500 pounds.  However, the best load is the load you as an operator can handle safely without undue strain.  For some individuals and operating conditions (ramps, stairs, rough terrain, etc.), this load may be significantly less than 500 pounds.  Know your limits and use your hand truck accordingly, serving you and your health best.
